ProVis MMX
ProVis MMX is a proprietary metal oxide and xanthan gum blend formulated to enhance gel strength, suspension, and solids carrying capacity in bentonite based HDD fluids. This product develops a highly thixotropic, shear-thinning fluid that forms a strong gel at rest while flowing easily under shear. This behavior allows ProVis MMX to suspend sand and heavy cuttings efficiently while maintaining manageable pump pressures and stable borehole conditions.
PRIMARY BENEFITS
- Higher suspension of cuttings and rapidgel development
- Reduced pumping pressures due to shearthinning behavior
- Improved borehole stability leading to lessfrac-outs
- Reduced torque and drag during drillingand pullback
FAQ’s
Can ProVis MMX replace bentonite clay?
No. ProVis MMX is designed to be used in conjunction with bentonite, not as a standalone replacement. Bentonite provides the base solids and structure required for MMX systems to perform properly.
Is ProVis MMX compatible with bentonite?
Yes. ProVis MMX is specifically formulated to work with bentonite based drilling fluids. Bentonite must be fully hydrated prior to the addition of ProVis MMX to ensure proper gel structure and system performance.
Is ProVis MMX compatible with other polymers?
ProVis MMX is not recommended for use with anionic polymers, including PAC and most synthetic polymers. These additives can interfere with the cationic charge mechanism of MMX systems and negatively impact performance.
What soil conditions is ProVis MMX best suited for?
ProVis MMX is best suited for all ground types, especially sand intensive and mixed formations where high suspension, gel strength, and borehole stability are required. Anywhere bentonite is used, ProVis MMX can be added to improve down hole conditions.
MIXING & APPLICATION
ProVis MMX is intended for use in bentonite-based HDD fluid systems where enhanced suspension and gel strength are needed without excessive fluid viscosity. Proper water conditioning and mixing order are critical for optimal results. ProVis MMX performs best in water treated to a pH of 10-11. In hard or mineral laden water, pretreatment with ProDyne prior to bentonite addition is recommended to ensure consistent hydration and performance.
Dosage:
- EZB (5 lb) treats 500 gallons of water
- Use with approximately 100-150 lb bentonite per 500 gallons
- Maintain MMX concentration at approximately 2% by weight of bentonite
If starting with an empty tank:
- Fill tank with water to desired capacity
- Adjust water pH to 10-11
- Add bentonite and allow it to fully hydrate
- Add ProVis MMX through the top of the tank
- Mix for 5-10 minutes to ensure full activation
If adding into a tank already filled to target capacity:
- Ensure fluid is circulating via pump or mixing jets
- Confirm bentonite is fully hydrated
- Add ProVis MMX through the top of the tank
- Mix for 5-10 minutes for full activation
