TerraSeal
TerraSeal is a superabsorbent polymer designed for HDD waste slurry solidification and clean up. When applied to drilling waste fluids and properly mixed, TerraSeal rapidly absorbs and solidifies slurries into a more manageable semi solid mass for handling, transportation, and disposal.
TerraSeal helps reduce disposal costs by minimizing free liquid waste and can assist in meeting landfill and disposal requirements for nonflowing materials. The product is especially effective for solidifying water-based drilling fluids, bentonite slurries, and low-solids waste streams generated during HDD operations.
MIXING & APPLICATION:
► (1) 55 lb bag of TerraSeal treats a 500-gallon tank.
Add TerraSeal directly to the drilling spoils pit or waste containment area once the drilling operation is complete. The product should be evenly distributed over the fluid surface and mechanically mixed using a vacuum truck, excavator, backhoe, or other agitation method to ensure complete contact with the slurry.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT RATE:
Target an initial treatment rate of approximately 1.2% by weight based on the total quantity of drilling fluid used.
EXAMPLE:
An initial 500-gallon tank of drilling fluid weighs approximately 4,200 lbs and typically requires one 55 lb bag of TerraSeal to achieve sufficient solidification to pass the Industrial Paint Filter Liquids Test (EPA Method 9095B).
Increase treatment rates up to approximately 1.5% for:
- Low-solids drilling slurries
- Excess water content
- Faster solidification requirements
Actual treatment requirements may vary depending on solids content, fluid chemistry, salinity, and desired final consistency. TerraSeal will continue to absorb moisture and solidify for up to 24 hours after mixing. Allow adequate time for full absorption before handling or disposal.
